Women In Defense (WID), A National Security Organization cultivates and supports the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national security. WID was established to provide women a formal environment for professional growth through networking, education, and career development. Women In Defense is an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), which represents all facets of the defense and technology industrial base and serves all military services. This affiliation gives WID members a source for defense industry information, increased networking opportunities and professional contacts, and an expanded scope of informative programs.
The Mid-Atlantic Chapter's primary purpose is to serve the community through outreach of scholarship, education, professional development, and networking programs. Our purpose is accomplished through awarding scholarships to local female high school students who are pursuing a STEM career field in support of national defense and national security. The chapter supports philanthropy needs in our area of responsibility being Baltimore City/County, Harford and Cecil Counties. Over $25,000 has been donated to Harford Community College, Cecil College, Harford County Boys and Girls Club, Habitat For Humanity, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, and Harford County Women of Tomorrow.
The Mid-Atlantic Chapter conducts programs to connect and increase our visibility in our respective communities, raise funds to advance our communities educationally, award scholarships, and encourage membership participation. On average, the chapter hosts eight annual events designed to increase the awareness of women in leadership positions, encourage STEM education for youth, mentor young leaders, and link the network of women leaders.
