Our annual scholarship is designated for a female, high school senior who demonstrates academic achievement, proven leadership, and persuasive writing.

Please consider supporting our mission to increase the number of females working in STEM-related careers fields in national security and defense.

WID is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization (tax ID 53-0196547) and your donation, whereas you received no goods or services in exchange for your donation, is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

2019 STEM Scholarship Overall Winner ($2,500)

Congratulations to the 2019 recipient of the Women In Defense (WID) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Scholarship, which provides funding to female high school seniors pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States.

This year’s $2,500 WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter STEM Education Scholarship recipient is Amy Pham of Aberdeen High School.

Sierra Smith is a 2018 graduate of Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, Maryland. She plans to study Neurobiology or Neuroscience before attending medical school.

Corinne is a 2017 graduate of Donegal High School in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. She plans to attend Grove City College and major in Mathematics. Her professional goal is to work for the National Security Agency or Central Intelligence Agency as a cryptanalyst to fulfill her love to create and decipher codes.

Deena Silton

Deena is a 2017 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, Maryland. Deena plans to attend the University of Maryland, College Park, and major in Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary track.  Recognizing that the Army is the only branch of military service which maintains a veterinary corps, Deena plans to serve in the Army’s Veterinary Corps and take care of the military working dogs that are used by the Army and Air Force, as well as marine mammals utilized by the U.S. Navy. Her lifelong goal is to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
