Scholarships

The Women In Defense (WID) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Scholarship provides funding to female high school seniors pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States. The WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter STEM Education Scholarship, valued at $2,500.00, is an annual, single-award scholarship. Through this scholarship, WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter helps shape the future defense and national security workforce.


All applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, writing skills and meet all other criteria as set forth in the scholarship application.  A review panel, composed of WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter Scholarship Committee members, will evaluate the applications and recommend scholarship awards to the WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter Board of Directors. The Directors approve the scholarships on behalf of the chapter. 


Awardees are not eligible to win more than one scholarship from WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter in a calendar year.

Scholarship Contributions

Our annual scholarship program, WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter STEM Education Scholarship, is designated for a female, high school senior who demonstrates academic achievement, proven leadership, and persuasive writing. Our mission is to increase the number of females working in STEM-related careers fields in national security and defense.

2017 Scholarship Winner

Corinne Mummau is a 2017 graduate of Donegal High School in Mount Joy, PA and a WID Mid-Atlantic STEM Education Scholarship recipient. Corinne plans to attend Grove City College and major in mathematics. Her professional goal is to work for the National Security Agency or Central Intelligence Agency as a cryptanalyst to fulfill her love to create and decipher codes. 

2017 Scholarship Winner

Deena Silton is a 2017 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, MD and a WID Mid-Atlantic STEM Education Scholarship Recipient. Deena plans to attend the University of Maryland, College Park and major in Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary track.  Recognizing that the Army is the only branch of military service which maintains a veterinary corps, Deena plans to serve in the Army's Veterinary Corps and take care of the Military Working Dogs that are used by the Army and Air Force, as well as marine mammals utilized by the U.S. Navy. Her lifelong goal is to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
